Which format should you choose?
- JPG: for photos you’ll share, upload to a form or email.
- PNG: for logos, screenshots and anything with a transparent background.
- WebP: for websites; much smaller than JPG at the same quality.
- AVIF: the smallest files, for websites whose visitors use current browsers.
To make a converted file smaller still, use the Image Compressor.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Choose your HEIC photos, leave the format on JPG and press Convert. Each photo downloads as a JPG that opens on Windows, in Office and on any website or form. Phone photos are turned the right way up first.
Does converting lower the quality?
Converting to PNG doesn’t lose anything. JPG, WebP and AVIF throw away a little detail to make files smaller; at the High setting you won’t see it. Converting JPG to PNG won’t bring back detail that’s already gone, and the file gets much bigger.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
PNG, WebP and AVIF keep them. JPG can’t store transparency, so see-through areas become white, and the tool tells you when that happens.
Does it change the image’s size in pixels?
No, width and height stay the same. To change them use the Image Resizer, and to reach a file size such as 50 KB use the Image Compressor.
Is my image uploaded? Is it private?
Yes, it’s uploaded to our own server over an encrypted connection. It’s held in memory, not saved to disk, and deleted the moment your browser receives the result, or after 30 minutes at the latest. We don’t look at, keep or share your images, and their names aren’t logged.
Can I convert animated GIFs?
Not yet. Still GIF, BMP and TIFF images work, but an animated file is refused rather than cut down to one frame.
Is there a limit?
Images up to 25 MB each, 20 at a time. It’s free and needs no account.
